[...] It took a while, but we finished watching the third season of Doctor Who last night, which means it’s time for the review of the whole shebang. (If you missed them, you can go back and read my wrap-ups for Season One and Season Two.) [...]

I, too, was disappointed with season 2. I think a large part of that was that the stories seemed more random than in the first season, and also seemed a bit repetitive in places (e.g. Rose finding her dad alive again).

But a good deal of my disappointment probably also lies with the absence of Christopher Eccleston as the doctor. I never did warm to David Tennant--he's just too manic. The Doctor/Rose giggling fits started to drive me crazy towards the end of the season.

Unlike practically everyone who's watched the second season, I didn't find the Girl in the Fireplace episode to be all that special. I think I must be the exception that proves it really was a good episode. :-)

I thought season 1 was stronger overall, but I preferred David Tennant to Christopher Eccleston. I look forward to seeing how he reacts to Captain Jack in season 3. "Girl in the Fireplace" is my favourite episode - Stephen Moffat is my favourite TV writer. Have you seen any of "Coupling" (the UK version)?

We've also seen the pilot of "The Sarah Jane Adventures" - this is very promising, although quite clearly aimed at a younger age group than Dr Who, whereas Torchwood was mostly disappointing.

I mostly agree with your choices, although my top four would have been:

* The Girl in the Fireplace
* Tooth and Claw
* School Reunion
* Army of Ghosts/Doomsday

I think I'm fonder of the "historical" episodes. A pure personal choice.

I suppose since I'm not a long-time Doctor fan, the references didn't do as much for me. Losing Piper moved Army/Doomsday down a notch for me, although I suppose it gave Rose more closer than Sarah Jane Smith had. (Although Sarah Jane got K-9. Poor Rose gets a squealing younger (half-? 3/4-?) sibling.

Slán!
